A crowd of 80 eager participants quickly outgrew the indoor space, forcing the scaly summer reading kickoff to relocate outside. And honestly? The snakes seemed thrilled to trade air conditioning for some sunshine.

Calling all animal lovers ages 3 and up! The Scotch Plains Public Library is hosting a special summer reading event featuring New Jersey’s native wildlife on Thursday, July 13, at 3:00 PM.
This fun and interactive program, part of this year’s “Build a Better World” theme, will be presented by Rizzo’s Wildlife Discovery. Founded by wildlife experts Dominic and Sharon Rizzo, the organization teaches the importance of conservation and protecting local species. You’ll learn about threatened animals like wood turtles and northern pine snakes—creatures that call New Jersey home!
Dominic, a skilled herpetologist (reptile and amphibian expert!), has spent years studying and working with wildlife. This is a great chance to see live animals up close while discovering how we can help preserve their habitats.
